Mayrhofen - Skiing For All The Family

Mayrhofen Austria is situated in the Ziller valley and forms part of the vast Zillertal Ski area. Mayrhofen hotels are designed to blend in with this traditional looking resort and there are numerous restaurants, bars and shops to visit. Mayrhofen is considered one of Austria’s top Ski resorts and is a good place to learn how to ski. Mayrhofen ski holidays are suitable for adults and families, plus the resort is also well connected by train and bus to the other popular resorts in the valley that form the Zillertal 3000 Ski area.

A single superski pass will cover the lifts in Mayrhofen along with all of the 11 villages in the valley including neighbouring Finkenburg, Tux im Zillertal and Hippach. Mayrhofen’s ski area is split between two mountains and has four Ski schools from which to learn the basics. Beginners - The skiing opportunities for beginners are excellent, with a range of gentle nursery slopes on the Penken at over 1800m, where you can get to grips with the basics of skiing. There are no less than four Ski schools to show you the ropes and help you to build confidence.

Intermediate - Intermediates are extremely well catered for in the Ziller valley, with the vast majority of the runs being blue or red. The best intermediate mountain in the Mayrhofen area is the Penken, which has some gentle slopes to stretch the legs and plenty of red runs to present a challenge. With a Ziller 3000 Ski pass you can also gain access to some scenic tree lined reds on Zell am Ziller, as well as some quieter, less crowded areas.

Advanced - The Horberg Ski area presents some superb challenges to the advanced skier with numerous long and challenging runs such as the Schafskopf mogul run. The steepest black run in Austria is the Harakiri, a 78% gradient requiring stamina and guts, but well worth the challenge for a confident skier.

Snowboarding - The excellent Burton Fun Park has assured Mayrhofen’s popularity among the snowboarding fraternity. Featuring quarter pipes and half pipes, and some wide exhilarating pistes, crammed with bumps and great natural features, there is more than enough to keep riders coming back year after year. Some fantastic off-piste terrain tops off an already spectacular resort.

Après ski- Plenty of lively bars and discos ensure the party goes on well into the night in Mayrhofen. The ‘Scotland Yard’ pub is a popular watering hole along with the ‘Ice bar’. For alternative daytime activities in Mayrhofen you can try your hand at tobogganing, ice skating, skidooing and a range of other outdoor pursuits. Alternatively you can have a go at bowling, squash and indoor tennis or visit the adventure pool centre.

Transfers - from Innsbruck to Mayrhofen are approximately 1hr 30minutes.
