The JMC brand is part of the well-known Thomas Cook Holidays group. The acronym JMC is actually the initials of the name John Mason Cook, the son of the original founder of the company, Thomas Cook. The JMC Holidays company was created with the grouping of a number of Tour Operators that were bought up by Thomas Cook Holidays. Sunworld, Sunset, Inspirations, Flying Colours and Caledonian Airways were all brought together under the JMC Holidays banner.

JMC Holidays began operating under the JMC name in March of 2000, primarily operating from London Gatwick and Manchester airport. JMC Holidays shares its position in the Thomas Cook Holidays group with a number of other well-known names including the young and lively Club 18–30 brand, Sunset Holidays and Blue Sky Direct, the Thomas Cook direct retail arm. JMC Airlines are now typically branded as Thomas Cook Airlines although the JMC Holidays name still exists.
