Geilo Ski Holidays Resort - Travel Guide
Traditional Norwegian Ski Resort
Geilo, Norway is a Ski resort set 800 metres above sea level and is one of Norway’s best-known Ski destinations. The Geilo Ski resort has been welcoming guests for over 100 years with a friendly face and a warm and cosy hotel. Geilo is set on the banks of the Ustedalen Fjord, which lies halfway between Oslo and Bergen in the upper Hallingal Valley and features some absolutely stunning scenery. Geilo enjoys a long and reliable snow season year after year. Geilo is a great destination for skiing and is a perfect resort to explore, as it offers so much tradition and culture. The farm culture in Geilo is well known, so if you aren’t much of a skier or you would like some time out from the slopes, then take a visit to one of the many farms in the area. Another popular location to visit is the Viking graves at Fekjo.
Geilo is also well known for the making of high quality knives, axes and tools, so why not explore one of the many factories and learn about the origins of these traditional products. Although there is a local airport, the nearest Airport that accepts international Flights to Geilo is Fagernes, around 2 hours northeast of Geilo. Hotels in Geilo are fairly numerous considering the relatively small size of the resort, with the most famous being the 100 year-old Dr Holms Hotel. Geilo chalets and apartments also offer plenty of choice for those who prefer the self-catering option.
