Elounda Holidays - Travel Guide

Elounda is a holiday resort on the east coast of the Greek Island of Crete.

Elounda is situated in a sheltered bay opposite the Spinalonga Peninsula. Elounda was formed as a group of smaller fishing villages merged together to form one town. Elounda holidays offer a charming cosmopolitan café culture centred around the bustling, picturesque harbour area and the village square.

There are numerous luxurious hotels in Elounda and some impressive yachts moored in the harbour. The beach at Elounda is a nice stretch of sand and shingle with a variety of water sports available. Snorkeling and scuba diving are popular activities on Elounda holidays due to the crystal clear water in the bay and the remarkable ancient underwater city of Olous, once an important trading centre.

You can enjoy some interesting historical features on Elounda holidays, such as the nearby island of Spinalonga, which has a 16th century Venetian fortress open to the public. There are plenty of bars, cafés, restaurants and discos in Elounda but the vibrant capital of the region Aghios Nikolaos is just a short trip along the coast and features an even greater choice of nightspots. Elounda has a great mix of sun, sea and sand with plenty of late night entertainment and interesting heritage to boot.
