Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and is the countries second largest city. It is situated on the southern shores of the Firth of the Forth and is considered to be one of Europe’s most dramatic cities. The city has many examples of Medieval and Georgian architecture and indeed in 1995 the Old and New Town were designated UNESCO World Heritage sites.
There are numerous attractions in this fine city, possibly the most famous being Edinburgh Castle, which sits proudly at the top of an extinct volcanic crag, with the tail of the Old Town sweeping down towards Princes Street Gardens, which divides the Old and New Towns. Edinburgh City Breaks give you the chance to experience the largest performing arts festival in the world the “Edinburgh Festival” and also the Edinburgh Tattoo (a military tattoo held in the magnificent grounds of the castle), the city also has a fantastic Hogmanay Festival at the end of the year. Other things to do in Edinburgh include visits to the National Gallery of Scotland, the new Scottish Parliament Building, or the National Monument (which sits on Calton Hill). Arthurs Seat is another fantastic vantage point giving spectacular views of the city.
