British Airways - The Worlds Favourite Airline

British Airways logo

With a history dating back to 1919 British Airways has become the standard bearer of the British aviation industry. When Imperial Airways and the smaller British Airways Ltd were nationalised in 1939 they became known as the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC), the European Flights being run by the newly formed British European Airways (BEA) in 1949.

A new challenge dawned for the airline industry with the increase in popularity of the package holiday ,European and worldwide, with BOAC and BEA combining in 1972 to form the British Airways Board and in 1974 the two separate airlines came together to form the now familiar household name of British Airways and jointly with Air France brought us the worlds first “supersonic” airliner Concorde in 1976. Following a complete overhaul during the 1980,s with brand and advertising experts being recruited to improve the airlines profile and image, British Airways turned a loss into profit and was successfully privatised on the London Stock Exchange in 1987 claiming to be “the world’s favourite airline”.
